In an attempt to revisit the world of tumblr..
We had our new friend Kyle over for a (somewhat) impromptu dinner. Kyle might be the handsomest man that we know and he’s a smartypants queer writer to boot. We met him as a regular at A’s place of work. It is always a good time when we can invite friends over to eat at the green table and crack open a ‘birthday wine’ or two (it was two).
Started off with simple *simple* apps. The standard olives and cornichons. 3 cheeses that were rescued from the Whole Foods orphan bins - don’t be fooled, these bins are not as destitute as one might think and we frequently find ourselves waiting in a small queue just to be able to sort through the small baskets of cheese ends that are not discounted, only tinier-portioned. Jarlsberg.. beh, not my fav. Something with cumin seed.. and another hard one I can’t remember. However, they tasted fantastic with: BEETS FROM THE CSA. Beautiful, orange beets - cooked, peeled, sliced, chilled, and topped with rice vinegar/olive oil/ honey/fresh CSA dill vinaigrette.
Main course was an angel hair pasta that gave me more anxiety than was necessary. CSA chard, shallots, garlic, a touch of breadcrumbs and mozzarella cheese. Basically, the problem was a lack of liquid, salt, and slightly slightly overcooked angel hair (when the boiling time on a pasta is 2 minutes, it is really tricky getting it to cook to the perfect al dente. Next time..).
Dessert was all A’s doing. Drunken local peaches in a homebaked shortbread biscuit sandwich, garnished with fresh basil from the #urbanfireescapegarden.
All made for a nice evening. We’ll feed you anytime.
These are the “additions” to our family. Peaches is the little boy brother cat (orange tabby) to sister May (calico).
They are very loving and like tuna and taking long showers.
Clean and pull out guts… Clean some more… and Celebrate! Turks is ready to be brined!!
